Ireland Secure Silver at Vision Impaired Rugby World Cup

Ireland’s Vision Impaired Rugby Team wrote their names in the history books by picking up silver medals at the inaugural Vision Impaired Rugby World Cup, on Friday October 13th in France.

The team which was sponsored by Aura headed to France last week to compete in the very first VI Rugby World Cup, taking on two French teams and the English VI team.

It was the Irish who claimed bragging rights over the French, winning both games against their teams by scorelines of 10-5, and 15-5.

They then played out a narrow 5-0 loss to England, before coming head-to-head against the English VI team again in the final, losing out 15-5 in the end.

However, despite the loss it was a historic day for the Irish team who secured the runners-up spot at the tournament.

Following the success of the competition it is now hoped that more international teams will be created to allow for further development of vision impaired rugby across the globe.

It is a step forward in diversity and inclusion within the rugby community and something we hope to see matched in other sports around the country to allow our top athletes compete against the best.

Aura is delighted to have been able to help this incredible team on their journey, and we look forward to seeing what they can accomplish in the future.
