Training Outside Of The Gym
Exercising at home has become more popular in recent times. While many of us might find it easier to get up and go when it comes to working out, it can be difficult at times to motivate yourself for various reasons. Some such reasons maybe our surroundings at home, lack of equipment, no clear direction to training or goals. The good thing is that with small changes and pointers we can help ourselves to be more active and go getting with our at home training.
As mentioned above our surroundings at home can be unhelpful when it comes to trying to get ourselves moving with our home workout plans. When we are at home we can tend to be very comfortable and relaxed in our surroundings. While this is obviously a good things, it can be negative when we’re trying to find the drive to exercise. Simple things such as comfort foods, TV or other technology such as Xbox or PlayStation can become more inviting and tempting especially when comparing it to exercise. One way in which to combat this maybe to challenge ourselves to get a certain workout done before we reward ourselves with watching an episode of our favourite show or playing our favourite game online.
Many of us do not live alone and either have family or friends living with us. This can again go both ways when it comes to our exercise regime. If we are not properly motivated we might let our housemates prevent us from training as much as we might like. Again we can make slight changes to turn sharing the house with others into a help rather than hindrance. If it is a case that we have younger children in the house we can incorporate them into our workouts, get them involved. Let them cycle along side us on our jogs, if we are doing our workouts pull out an exercise mat for them let them do their version of our exercise moves. This will make exercise more enjoyable for both just of us. If our housemates are more our age again involving them by getting them to be our workout buddies can make exercise less daunting and we’ll be more motivated to train regularly.
A lack of wide ranging gym equipment can be one of the biggest reasons that our training outside of the gym fails. While it is near impossible to gather the range of machines available to us in gym, it can be easy to alter our workout to suit what equipment if any that we may have. Bodyweight workouts can be just as effective if we get the right type of exercise routines planned out. Resistance bands are one piece of equipment I would personally recommend for those who might not have access to weights, they are a good substitute and can easily work our whole body with the correct guidance and tips.
The final point I would like to touch on is goal setting and direction with regards to our training. This is perhaps the most important thing to consider if we wish to properly motivate ourselves to make our training successful. It is important to start off with small goals, e.g. Being active for 3 days of the upcoming week even if short workouts to begin with. If we are successful with this it can give us a lift and help us to push on and make slightly more difficult goals in weeks to come. Having this direction can help give us the motivation to keep up our training to a good level.
In conclusion there are many reasons why we might get distracted or struggle with our training outside of the gym. While it can be difficult to motivate ourselves it is possible to if we make even small changes and always keep in mind the goals we are setting ourselves. If we keep this in mind we can motivate ourselves to keep training better than ever.
