Aura Leisure celebrated its annual environment week from August 19th to 25th in order to promote how sustainable and renewable sources are being used across the company.
Each year at Aura Leisure we take time to show how we continue to strive toward a more environmentally friendly strategy within our company as we try to help local communities as best we can.
This year we shared some of our impressive statistics as well as some of our centres documenting what they do at a local level to help our planet.
At Aura we have an award-winning five-point energy plan which continues to see us succeed in making each of our centres greener and healthier by reducing our consumption as well as energy usage.
Over more than 10 years we have seen significant positive impacts as we have put our plan into action including reducing our water consumption by 55% and decreasing our electricity usage by a whooping 53%.
We have also overseen 28,000 tonnes of carbon savings (the equivalent to planting 1.4 million trees!) and we have dropped our fuel usage by 39%.
This has been achieved in partnership with the local authorities as we seek the best and healthiest ways to help our planet moving forward.
Along with these huge impacts we actively encourage our staff and members to recycle, reduce paper waste, as well as plastic waste, save energy along with water whenever possible.
Meanwhile, throughout the week many of our centres gave examples of ways to treat our planet better, such as Aura Navan asking people to consider what they need to use during the summer months, perhaps less lights should be on, opening windows instead of using air conditioning, etc, while Aura Drogheda promoted similar activities including picking up litter and having cold showers.
Aura De Paul asked members to recycle, especially with the Re-Turn scheme in place at present, with Aura Dundalk producing several brilliant bits of content including telling members about the reusable travel cups they have available in their centre.
Overall, it is clear that there are many small things we can do to help our planet become healthier.
At Aura we will continue on our mission to create a healthier, happier, and greener Ireland as we do our bit in building a sustainable future.
